Lightweight Boat Race

The Lightweight Boat Race, between the universities of Oxford and Cambridge was founded in 1975 by CULRC alum Richard Bates of St. John’s College, Cambridge.

The race took place in Henley on Thames and over 2000 meters .  The Lightweight Women’s Boat Race joined the ‘Henley Boat Races’ in 1984 and raced there until 2019.

For the first time, on 23rd March 2019 the Lightweight men’s race was held on the Tideway in London over the same Championship Course as the open weight  Boat Races.

The 2020 race will be the first time that OUWLRC and CUWBC Lightweights race each other on the Tideway, Championship Course
