Current & Former CUWBC Athletes to represent GB

Imogen Grant (Trinity) who learned to row through her College Boat Club (First and Third) at the University of Cambridge has been selected to represent Great Britain in the Lightweight Women’s Single Scull at the forthcoming World Cup in Belgrade.

Imogen, who was in CUWBC’s winning Blue Boat in 2017 and 2018 and in the winning reserve crew in 2016 first picked up the sport in October 2014 and after learning to row with First and Third Trinity Boat Club, was part of CUWBC’s Development Squad under the guidance of coach Patrick Ryan.

In 2017, Imogen raced in the GB Lightweight Women’s Quad at the World Rowing U23 Championships and after impressing at this year’s GB Rowing Team Assessments, has now been selected to race with the Senior Team.

CUWBC’s Chief Coach Rob Baker will accompany Imogen to the World Cup.

Speaking on her selection, Imogen said:

“I am so excited to have been given the opportunity to race at the World Cup! It has been a juggling act since the boat race to fit in medical placements and jumping back into sculling, and I was very unsure of my speed going into final trials. Everything has gone better than I could possibly imagine, so I’m hoping I can continue improving through the next two weeks, at the World Cup, and through the whole summer.”

Imogen will start her racing at around 09:00 on Friday 1 June – the exact schedule is due to be confirmed at the draw on Thursday 31 May. Racing can be followed live here.

Meanwhile, CUWBC & Trinity College Alumna Fran Rawlins has been selected to race in the Lightweight Double Scull. Fran, who is now rowing with Tideway Scullers in London, was CUWBC’s Lightweight Captain in 2007/08 and a member of the winning Lightweight crew in 2008.
