CUWBC Tops BUCS Small Boats Medal Table

Cambridge women finished top of the overall medal table in the British Universities & Colleges Sport (BUCS) Small Boats Head, above several clubs who entered both men and women. The results are extracted from the recent GB Rowing Team Assessment and CUWBC won medals in all three of the women’s events.

The light blues dominated the openweight women’s single scull winning all three medals. Melissa Wilson (Lucy Cavendish) gold, Holly Hill (Downing) silver and Alice White (Homerton) bronze.

Imogen Grant (Trinity) who began rowing through her College at Cambridge and learned to scull with CUWBC this summer took the gold medal in the lightweight women’s single scull and was the fastest U23 sculler of the GB Rowing Team assessment.

Cambridge also picked up a medal in the women’s coxless pair with Lucy Pike (Trinity Hall) and Rachel Elwood (Gonville & Caius) taking silver although they were the fastest crew eligible for the GB Rowing Team assessment.

The 2 gold, 2 silver and 1 bronze not only put not only put the Cambridge women at the top of the medal table but also made them comfortable winners of the Women’s Team award, earning an additional 20 BUCS points for the University.

Speaking of the achievements of the Squad, Chief Coach Rob Baker said;

“We were very pleased with our results for the GB Rowing Team triallists, but to be able to win 5 BUCS medals and top the table in addition is a great result and shows what Cambridge women can achieve.”
