CUWBC at the Windermere Cup

This week CUWBC squad members with Chief Coach Rob Baker and Club Coordinator James Lee are in Seattle to race in the Windemere Cup, a regatta famed for it’s pageantry, exciting racing and rousing levels of support from the rowing fans of the city.

Without doubt, Seattle provides American university rowing with one of the most picturesque race settings. The Windermere Cup is in its the 30th year on Saturday, May 7. This renowned rowing event is the feature of Seattle’s Yacht Club’s annual Opening Day of boating season, a tradition that dates back over a century. The University of Washington has extended an invitation to a number of crews including San Diego Women’s Crew, the Stanford Men and the Russian Men’s National Team, so Cambridge will be in good company!

CUWBC  are being hosted as guests of the University of Washington Boat Club in the days ahead of the regatta. “Windermere Cup has become a Seattle sporting tradition,” said University of Washington men’s head coach Michael Callahan. “It’s a rite of passage each spring. It’s also provided us with incredible competition for 30 years, which our students and the participants from around the world have been able to enjoy.”

This is the second time in recent years that CUWBC has been invited to join the regatta, the last time being in 2011. CUWBC Chief Coach, Rob Baker says, “We are delighted to return to Seattle as guests of University of Washington and would like to thank our hosts for the invitation. We are looking forward to racing crews who are amongst the best university crews in the world.”

Our crew will be racing at 11:40am EST.
