Fastest Women’s Four at British Rowing Championships

Fastest Women’s Four at British Rowing Championships

CUWBC produced the fastest Women’s Four at this weekend’s British Rowing Senior Championships. Squad member Larkin Sayre reports…

We really enjoyed kicking off the racing season with some 2k racing up at Nottingham for the British Rowing Senior Championships. CUWBC took two openweight women’s coxless fours and an openweight double to the event.

Looking strong in a considerable head-wind, Fanny Belais (stroke) and Rebecca Dell (bow) were the first ones on the water for the openweight double time-trial. They placed 20th out of an incredibly competitive field of 35 crews. They came fourth in their C/D semi-final and followed that up with a great race to take second place in the D final. Well done to Fanny and Becky!

The ‘B’ coxless four, expertly steered by bow seat Sally O’Brien, stroked by Emma Andrews and backed up by middle pair Pippa Dakin (3 seat) and Larkin Sayre (2 seat) made a great start to the day by placing fourth in the 1900m time trial. Unfortunately, they found themselves in the tougher of the two A/B semi-finals and were edged out of a place in the A final by one of the Edinburgh University fours. They picked themselves up and raced a cracking B final, winning the race by 24 seconds over the second place crew and in a time that would have been comfortably ahead of two crews in the A final.

The ‘A’ women’s four was stroked by Lily Lindsay, and backed up by Patricia Smith (3 seat), Pippa Whittaker (2 seat) and Ida Jacobsen (Bow). They powered down the course three times for wins in the overall time trial, first place in their A/B semi-final and first place in the A final to take home the gold medals. They won the A final with an 8 second margin over a very strong Molesey crew who took the silver. Overall a great showing for CUWBC!

Massive congratulations as well to CUBC for their win in the men’s coxless four event and strong showings in the B and C finals. Thanks for all the support throughout the day lads!

CUWBC is now looking forward to some productive training this weekend on the Tideway followed by the Fuller’s Head of the River Fours on Saturday November 3rd.
