Lightweight Squad – Racing and Training in Henley

The Lightweight Women raced at  Henley Four’s and Eight’s Head on Saturday 16th February.

The 3k head race was the perfect opportunity to race on the same stretch of water as our Boat Race. The Lightweight Women’s Boat Race will take place against Oxford on the 30th March.  For some members of the crew, it was their first time on the Henley stretch. We were delighted to come away with second in Open Women’s Band 1, behind a very strong Leander crew.

Fixture Day

Sunday 17th February

We raced two 1500m pieces against a strong Henley RC crew. In the first piece, the CUWBC lightweight crew established a lead of ¾ length by Upper Thames but Henley responded strongly to draw level by the end of the piece. In the second piece, Henley had the slightly quicker start, maintaining the lead they established  to win.

Thank You

We would like to thank Felicity Rutland for hosting us over the weekend and HRC for some very exciting sparring, which has really helped the squad to acclimatise to our race environment.

We are looking forward to returning to Henley during our race week and are now turning our attention to another fixture next weekend on the Tideway, against Thames Rowing Club.
