05 Jun New CUWBC Junior Committee Elected
President- Larkin Sayre.
Despite growing up very locally in Cambridge, Larkin first picked up an oar across the pond at MIT, where she stroked their first boat. She came to Cambridge in 2017 to develop her interests in energy and sustainable technologies and has now nearly completed the first year of her PhD in the Material Science department, looking at developing solar cells. With back to back boat race wins in Blondie 2018 and the Blue Boat 2019, Larkin has a wealth of boat race experience to bring to the President’s role. She is also a fantastic supportive presence in the squad, having been our welness officer this year, and is always smiling and bringing up those around her.
Vice President- Laura Foster.
Laura learnt to row at Mercer Juniors in Princeton, New Jersey before completing her undergraduate at the University of Michigan, where she was on the rowing team for four years. When not rowing, she has a passion for her PhD in archaeology, where she is looking at longevity of infrastructure in post-Roman Britain, and has been known to go on archaeological digs in the summer. Her lighthearted nature makes even early training enjoyable, but she is also a fierce racer, having joined Larkin in the winning Blondie 2018 and Blue Boat 2019 crews. Laura’s balance of incredible determination and an infectious sense of fun makes her a perfect choice to support and lead the squad as Vice President next year.
Lightweight Captain- Catherine Walker.
Catherine will be going into her third year of History and Politics having learnt to row as a fresher at Caius College Boat Club. She picked up the sport very quickly, rowing with their women’s first boat in bumps and joining our summer development squad where she raced at BUCS and HWR in 2018. This season she was in our victorious lightweight spare pair, who produced an excellent row in Henley to win by 3 lengths. Catherine will be able to provide support for all college rowers looking to make the step up into the squad, and use her recent boat race experience to lead the lightweights into a very exciting year.
We look forward to the next season under their leadership!
