20 Nov Success at Fours’ Head
On Saturday 18th November 2006 CUWBC entered five IVs and a quad in the 52nd Fuller’s Head of the River Fours. The race takes place over the 4¼ mile ‘Championship Course’ from Mortlake to Putney on the River Thames, London.
After success in The Head of the Charles, Boston USA, Fours Head was a chance for the whole CUWBC squad to gain some valuable early season race practice on the Tideway. In total there were 509 crews from across the UK and Europe competing in the event, and near perfect racing conditions.
Overall CUWBC put in a solid performance so early in the season, demonstrating the squad’s exciting potential for success in 2007. The CUW quad (Guen Bradbury, Jen Hawton, Rachael Jefferies and Charlotte Jefferies) finished third in the WS2 4x division and despite a disappointing race the CUW coxed IV (Jimmy Appleton, Elly Kingma, Lucy Wordley, Jen Reid and Kat Lange) won WS3 4+, beating a significant number of men’s coxed IVs, with a time that would have placed them second in WS2 4+.
